About the Blogger

My name is Nicholas Kory, and I'm a writer.

I'm a 26-year-old male from central Minnesota who has been writing since he was young. My writing history includes horror, fantasy, science fiction, young adult fiction, historical fiction, essays, and poetry. Most recently my work has been centered around finding my place as a game designer and as a creative writer, the fruits of which you can find via the links above. My reading tastes cover nearly everything, but focus primarily on the works of Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Douglas Adams, and any of an ever-growing number of non-fiction memoirs and autobiographies by influential individuals in my life.

I have a profound, ambitious love for theater and film, and it has always been a lingering hope or goal of mine to get involved in one or the other at some point in my life. I have a love-hate relationship with video games, and my ideal evening would consist of hanging out with friends as we play any number of board, card or party games. To me, the kitchen table is the best place to entertain a gathering of people.

Professionally, my life is just starting, albeit a bit late (in my opinion). My original ambition to attend college and graduate, albeit a bit late, with a teaching degree has taken a back seat to my other, growing ambitions. My desire to teach, while real, felt like it was more about me seeking a common ground between what I thought I wanted and what I thought others wanted from me. However, my life through the year 2013 made me realize that as long as I did things for myself and to better my creativity, then that was exactly what others wanted from me. I've always tried to live my life for others, but recently I've learned that when I truly live my life for myself, it becomes about others simply by its nature.

While all of this is happening, I am writing, or trying to, and that is the core of this blog. My role-playing game, my fiction, my daily journals and my occasional bits that I call my "Literary Burps" are all things that I mean when I call myself a writer. I am also working to better myself as a person, reminding myself every day to try new things, to keep an open mind, and to meet new people.

When I'm not studying, writing, with the girlfriend or with friends, I can usually be found reading comic books, working on my origami skills, doing yoga, or finding some other way to enjoy the day. And hopefully, with this strange, awkward and occasionally useful collection of habits, interests and quirks I'll have something intriguing, thought provoking, or amusing to share with you. And those, the final products, the bits that I feel is important enough to post about, are my Experience Points.
